Week 12 Reflection

Week 12 and I'm still enjoying researching on tasers. Being a cop is a tough thing but it can all be worth it in the end when you've succeeded the [physical] training. Police training down in Wellington includes using firearms such as guns. REAL LIFE GUNS [something that I'll be looking forward to when I get there], other weapons like batons and your other equipment like your handcuffs, pens, ticket book - blah blah blah.

But, there is one thing that bothers the community, especially the CATT - and that's using taser guns. Getting trained with tasers is something different, though carrying a taser and using it on crims is another.

The fact that it can kill people is what's got them so worked up about the tasers, but personally, I don't think tasers are that bad. If it was mishandled [ is that a word? ] by any of the officers or abused, then okay - maybe it was a bad idea. However, to have evidence for it to be mishandled is a must. Something like witnesses or American styles and have cameras in their cars.

Week 11 reflection

It is now week 11 and my research on taser guns is going really good. It was interesting to read the history of taser guns and how it will affect the human anatomy and much more.

I'm really happy about the way things are going with the research, finding advantages and disadvantages as a whole.

I also found articles and journals on taser gun experiments with a remarkable turn out on taser guns. It was awfully weird to find that some of the experiments, pigs were used rather than humans, for which the taser guns are intended for. As I continued to read about the experiment, thankfully enough, they used some sort of anesthetic so the animal wouldn't be harmed.

Overall, the research on taser guns is going well. If you want to read up on my summarised work on taser guns, you'll find it on my posting before this.

Weeks 8, 9, 10... reflections.

Hi guys,

I'll be squashing in weeks 8, 9, and 10's reflections into one blog, saving me time to write on the three weeks and saves you time in reading three separate blogs. Look at it as a 3 in 1 blog... =)

Anyways,

Week 8 and back at uni from the Easter break as well as our two week mid semester break and everything was looking fine. Having returned back to computer labs on Thursday, I continued searching for more of linguistic rules based around the Pacific Islanders and so forth.

I knew that it was going to be hard looking for resources but I went ahead and did it. It wasn't long till I got fed up while looking for it so I went home and started to search on my computer there.

Week 8 had passed and week 9 was approaching. Growing more frustrated while I was searching on articles or for any sources on the Pacific. At the time I decided to scratch what I was doing and start anew. So I thought some more...

Knowing that I am going to go to the police force soon and selecting criminology as my minor, I decided to research on taser guns in NZ and around the world (but, especially on NZ and taser guns). How it will be effective for catching violent criminals and how it will effect the economy. It's something that I find interesting. I have heard without research, that there are some negatives as well as positives to having tasers in the country. But my research begins ...

During week 10, I managed to transfer my work from Mahara onto blogger and so everything that I will be doing is in this site, making things easier for me as well as others to access. I know that I will be speaking for others as well when I say that, Mahara is too confusing (even with the basics). But life is tough when you make it tough, so lets keep things simple ;)

I will post the URL for the portfolio...

First half of smester 1 ... reflection.

Hi everyone,

I know it’s a bit too late, but I’m going to do it anyway. This is a reflection on my first half of the semester in iReflect with our awesome lecturer Darryl [ BIG SMILES =D ].

My first few weeks in the class, was just as I had suspected it to be. Full of confusion and lost minds along with a lot of other expectations about the paper. It wasn’t until we were introduced to the paper we saw that there we were to deal with creating our own websites that will contain our reflections (hence the name – iReflect). I was thinking “YAY! Adobe Fireworks!”- obviously not. We were to create our websites through a website that was (supposed) to help us keep our information (including our assets, past achievements, CV like folders) nice and tidy – called Mahara.

Just as Darryl was explaining to the class how to use the website, my friends and I were getting confused. Even though things made sense the first time round, we still could not get our heads around the instructions. When we needed help for the website, Darryl (who was a first time user of Mahara himself) was also learning about the website. Though there were other students in the class who knew what to do and who has background knowledge of the website, having two people explaining at one time made things more confusing and ending up having to walk out of the room just so I don’t have to open my mouth up to say anything nasty.

Those were the first few weeks. As the weeks went by, We were all getting a hang of things. Answering questions for the first few weeks was fine. Having to add other media into the website made it feel like I was back at square one with the confusion.

Okay, it looks like I got to wrap things up here. But before I do, things started to ease up a little with the help of some class mates who were also trying their hardest to keep on track of things. All in all, I vow never to use Mahara again for anything relating to my academic learning (unless, the paper tells me so I can pass)!

For now...

PEACE!

Ane [Annie] Mahe's brief intro...

Hi everyone,

Just a brief introduction on myself before I get to my work. =D

I was born and breed in NZ and I am a student that was fresh out of high school. I am currently on my second year at AUT University doing a paper in BAES (Bachelors in English Studies). I am studying this paper out of interest and because I want to take the degree to an overseas experience, preferably Tonga or somewhere in the Pacific Islands (as there is very few of us P.I English teachers in my home country). There is also a sudden interest in how the English language affects the P.I languages or how P.I languages is affected by English in the way a P.I person utters their sentences. There are more questions that revolves around this particular topic and I pray and hope that I will find the answers to the many questions that I have in mind.

PEACE.

oh and bythe way, I will be using this site from now on because MAHARA is confusing me - like its doing to everyone else.
